Most kids get the majority of information, habits and behaviours from the adults around them, and this set’s them up on the path of how they will live their life.
But what happens when the adults around them don’t know how to make better choices?
They don’t know how to put together healthy meals, they get confused everytime they go into the supermarket with what is or isn’t healthy, and get caught in the rut of just trying to do the best they can.
This lack of knowledge has caused us to be in the middle of an epidemic, where obesity rates are at an all-time high, and chronic diseases are sweeping the nation.
Everyday more and more kids are getting diabetes, are at a higher risk of disease and for the first time in history we have a population of kids with a shorter life expectancy than their parents.
And to make matters worse, it’s estimated that 20% of deaths EVERY year are down to poor diet and lifestyle choices…
Just let that sink in for a moment.
That’s 1 in 5 deaths every year that could possibly be avoided, which in itself shows that we can no longer afford to be ignorant to the consequences of our actions.
The truth is that when people don’t focus on their health they have a drastically lowered quality of life.
Becoming dependant on medications, always low on energy, having issues managing stress, trouble sleeping and far more likely to suffer from depression, anxiety and always getting sick.
And a huge part of the problem is the information out there is so overwhelming, and even when people do want to make better choices, they just have no clue where to begin.
And if you are feeling that way then you are not alone, but this is something we desperately need to change, as these should all be basic life skills known by everyone.
But remaining in this endless cycle is not just affecting your life, it is directly affecting your kids future as well, which is why it is so essential you have the right tools and knowledge to pass down to them, so that they can make better choices and avoid making the same mistakes that we as a society have.
As you may well know, I’m on a mission to change the way this country uses and thinks about food, and show others that a healthy lifestyle is achievable for all.
That starts with providing people with the right guidance, tools and support to actually make better choices for them and their families, and that’s a huge part of the reason why I created my ‘Reconstruct a Better You’ Programme, and wrote my book ‘Become a Better You‘, as ways of giving others everything they need to make better choices for them and their family.
This lack of knowledge is something we need to change on a national level, as I don’t know about you, but in school we received no nutritional education, which for me is a fundamental life skill that should be right up there with knowing how to read and write.
After all, this is a part of our lives we need to do at least 3 times a day, everyday of our lives, and that’s why it is absolutely essential that we start spreading the message that people need to focus on their health.
But what do you think?
Should this be an aspect of public health that is more heavily pushed in the media?
And a bigger focus in schools, the workplace and parliament?
