Are you a perfectionist?

I want to ask you something, and I want you to give me an honest answer.

Do you think of yourself as a perfectionist?

Whether that’s at work, studying, personal projects or other aspects of your life, always making sure that everything is just ‘right’?

You see, a lot of people say that they are a perfectionist, taking pride in it, almost as if it places them up on a pedestal of how great it is that they never make mistakes.

But I’m sorry to be the one to tell you this…but you’re not a perfectionist, you’re scared.

The truth is there’s nothing good about being a perfectionist, and this is just a label you give yourself to place a barrier in front of facing who you truly are.

Because what are you scared of? 

You’re scared of failing, judgement, letting yourself down, the voice in back of head saying it was right, that you weren’t good enough after all.

So instead you give yourself this positive association that being a perfectionist is a good thing.

And you don’t want to let it go.

But here’s the thing, it’s holding you back, and this is a big part of the reason why you can’t get results and have settled for the life that you have.

So if we get to the truth, you’re scared.

That’s why you dabble with diets, you dabble with exercise and you dabble with change.

You dip your toe in, but only far enough so that when you pull it out it doesn’t hurt.

And that’s why you’re stuck.

You’re building up a wall of perfection, cause you don’t want to face your demons and see who you can truly become.

And you see what I did? I got you in, saying are you a perfectionist and I’m sure you were like ‘you’re damn right I am’ with a proud grin on your face.

Then I twisted it, because you need to know the truth, because you can’t see it for yourself, because you associate positivity with being a perfectionist.

Hiding behind this label, procrastinating and waiting for the ‘perfect’ time when everything feels right and you know there’s no chance you’ll fail.

So if you are telling me you are a perfectionist then you need to know the facts, and the fact is you’re scared.

And we need to change that.

We need to associate fear, misery and self-doubt with being a perfectionist.

Because what do perfectionists do? 

They do nothing. 

They sit there, they say they want to change, but never actually do it, they overthink it, never taking advantage of their potential.

Wasting time they’ll never get back struggling to get started, going round in circles and deep down always wishing for something more

So think about that, how does that feel?

That’s why you need to change your identity, you need to go all in on yourself and you need to reconstruct yourself as the person you want to be.

Doing something is always going to be better than doing nothing, which is why it’s not about being perfect, it’s about being a little better everyday.

So tell me honestly, are you ready to stop settling and take control of the life you’ve always wanted?
